By car
Open Google Maps to reach the catacombs of San Gaudioso. You must park your car on the street.
By Metro (Tube) line 1 and bus
Take the metro line 1, get off at Piazza Museo (National Archaeological Museum). Outside the station turn on the right and at 100 meters you will find the bus stop. So to reach the Catacombs of San Gaudioso you need to take one of these BUS: 168, C63, 178 or the 3M. Get off at the Sanità lift stop (Ask the driver "Ascensore della Sanità"). Take the lift down and cross the square to reach the basilica of Santa Maria della Sanità where one find the entrance of catacombs of San Gaudioso.

Take Metro, line 2, get off at Piazza cavour, then outside the station turn on the right and walking untill you arrive at Piazza Museo (Museum square), where National Archaeological Museum is located. Fontanelle cemetery is an ancient ossuary where one find about 40,000 human remains.and it is located in the Sanità district, in via Fontanelle.
In the past the inhabitants of Naples had the custom adoption of a deceased in exchange for good luck, the cult of the souls of pezzentelle. Usually an abandoned soul was adopted, which is why it was called pezzentella (beggar).
